Curls up in the snow to sleep...
A gray wolf, Canis lupus, curls up in the snow to sleep, with his eyes looking into the camera.A beautiful National Geographic photo, taken by Jim And Jamie Dutcher, at the Sawtooth Mountains, Idaho, and featured here on a wrapped canvas print.
The gray wolf and its winter fur
The gray wolf has a thick winter fur, with an outer layer composed of coarse guard hairs, and a dense underfur layer providing it with excellent insulation against cold conditions. The winter fur is highly resistant to cold - wolves in northern climates can rest comfortably in open areas at −40° by placing their muzzles between the rear legs and covering their faces with their tail!Recommended Articles on Gray Wolf
